This posthumously published memoir by Mary Fletcher Richardson (1802-1866), wife of the prominent American Methodist minister and abolitionist Joseph Benson Fletcher, offers a rare glimpse into the private life and inner thoughts of a 19th-century woman of faith. Edited and annotated by Fletcher's daughter Cynthia Morgan St. John, the book includes excerpts from Fletcher's personal correspondence as well as family documents and reminiscences. Together, they form a rich and moving portrait of a woman devoted to her family, her faith, and her social ideals. This volume will appeal to scholars and general readers interested in women's history and religious studies.
