The monograph is devoted to the urgent problems of political, economic and social development of the DR Congo. The research on the example of this African country focuses on the question of the causes of economic backwardness and huge differences in income observed in the modern world economy. Model calculations, which take into account the key role of technological progress, have shown that there is some combination of factors that determines economic development. To overcome its underdevelopment, Congo (formerly Zaire) must substantially increase, along with education and R&D, the economic role of learning by doing. All this requires more investment in physical and human capital, greater involvement of foreign venture capital, and modernization of agriculture and infrastructure. To achieve these goals, however, armed conflict must end.
