《激流者》是一本独一无二的书，让抗战研究者惊喜赞叹，同时也令历史学者汗颜。赖恩典，这位1982年出生于福建漳州的独立摄影师，没有上过大学，却以一己之力，坚持15 年，完成了任何学术机构、民间团队都未能实现的壮举。他走遍中国大江南北、海峡两岸，远赴美国、新加坡，访问了170 位抗战老兵、亲历者，包括两名女兵和一名慰安妇幸存者，录制了740 个小时的专业级口述影像。在各地关爱抗战老兵志愿者的协助下，他整理出一百多万字的口述记录。自2013 年以来，他在微信公众号一起抗战口述历史上已经发布25位受访人，共约50万字的口述访问记录。
继2022年推出《逆流者--抗日杀奸团成员口述历史实录》之后，这本《《激流者：陆海空抗战老兵口述》，记录了五位抗战老兵激流勇进的人生。这五位老兵都是陆海空、伞兵及军事情报单位的专业人员，他们丰富多元、往往高度机密的经历是现有抗战口述少有触及的内容，是极具价值的珍稀史料。
梁家佑（1922-2014）是西南联大从军八百学子之一，1944 年2 月加入孙立人部任翻译，参与缅北反攻，后随炮兵连配属英军，收复缅甸中部。
新加坡华侨黄锡骥（1926-2023）在珍珠港事变前夕，年仅15 岁便回国投身抗战，入学贵州桐梓海军学校;1948 年在香港添马舰接受英国海军训练，学习电罗经等航海技术; 1949 年重庆号事件中，他将该巡洋舰从上海吴淞口领航至渤海解放区。
杨勤槐（1927-2020）是中国第一支伞兵部队陆军突击总队（代号鸿翔部队）第一队成员，抗战胜利前夕伞降广东开平，奇袭日军。
陈炳靖（1918-2022）是嵌入美国第14 航空队（其前身为飞虎队）第23 大队的中国籍战斗机飞行员，1943 年10 月护航美军轰炸机空袭越南海防港，被日机击伤后跳伞，野外逃生数日，最终被俘，被日军囚于上海江湾美军战俘营、南京老虎桥监狱近两年，历尽折磨。
五位受访人中唯一仍健在者李健平生于1927 年，1944 年被美军第14 航空队与战略情报局（Office ofStrategic Services，简称OSS）招募进无线电训
