Origin and History The Vizsla is an ancient hunting dog breed that originated in Hungary, with roots tracing back over 1,000 years. Weight: 44-60 pounds (males typically larger than females)
Coat: Short, smooth, and dense; no undercoat
Color: Solid golden rust (white markings on the chest and toes are acceptable but not preferred)
Eyes and Nose: Eyes and nose typically blend with the coat color; eye color ranges from light to dark brown
Build: Lean, muscular, and well-proportioned with a deep chest and long legs
Tail: Often docked in countries where the practice is legal; otherwise, the tail is moderately long and carried horizontally Their physique is built for stamina, agility, and speed, making them ideal for fieldwork and active households. Personality Traits and Temperament Vizslas are renowned for their affectionate, loyal, and energetic temperament. They form deep bonds with their families and are often referred to as Velcro dogs because of their strong desire to be near their owners at all times. They do not do well in isolation or homes where they are left alone for long periods. However, they can become bored with repetitive tasks and need mental stimulation. Energetic and Athletic: Bred as hunting dogs, they require significant daily exercise to stay physically and mentally balanced. Lack of activity can lead to restlessness and destructive behavior.
