The child, Lysa, grows up with no memory of that day-only nightmares of a blazing eye and a voice that lives in their bones. Wounds heal too fast. Fear tastes like smoke. Strong emotion makes distant wings beat in their chest. At night, they feel the dragon's boredom, hunger, and satisfaction as it arranges its hoard: mountains of gold... and a collection of living, marked souls.

The sky-tyrant is slain.
But when a dragon dies, its will doesn't always follow.
Instead of shattering into nothing, the dragon's unfinished will, grudges, and hunger pour down every soul-thread it ever claimed-slamming hardest into Lysa. Overnight, they become the impossible: a human body carrying the echo of a dead dragon's heart.
