The glacier at the end of the fjord is melting faster than it should. Its runoff tastes wrong. It leaves white crust on leather, tools, and lips, like the land is sweating brine.
Dr. Eira Hansen arrives at a remote Arctic research station to answer a clean scientific question: why are the melt rates accelerating, and why do the core samples read like the ice record has been shuffled. The station chief, Lars Magnusson, wants discipline and procedure. Geologist Freya Nilsen wants proof. Technician Oskar has only a warning the locals still whisper: the weeping ice takes things from you.
Then the anomalies start stacking. Salt seams appear inside deep ice layers where salt cannot belong. A core comes up with rot trapped in it. The drill vibrates like it hit something that breathes. At night, Eira hears weeping across the fjord, as if the glacier is crying from inside its own body.
Eira's mother is disappearing to Alzheimer's back home. Eira came north to escape a slow kind of erasure she cannot fix. What she finds is worse: an older hunger that does not kill quickly. It edits. It steals names, faces, and the order of your own life. And buried in the ice is a relic that proves this place has been a vault before, a salt altar cut with marks meant to bind something that should not have been allowed to exist.
Because the glacier is not only melting. It is releasing. And the more the ice forgets, the more the thing inside it remembers.
