This is a true story with step-by-step guidance on the many aspects you will need to consider, including a good sprinkling of fun anecdotes of how events unfolded for this particular jovial host, Janne Larsson. He moved from Sweden to France in the autumn of 2015 to follow the call of his heart, despite having not one word of French in his vocabulary at that time!
Janne shares his experiences of finding the right house, sorting out the finances, sourcing the right people and materials, and following all the rules, so that you might benefit from this firsthand insider information of what worked - and what didn't! With advice on the best attitude for dealing with the ups and downs of the early years, as well as suggestions for improvements once the business is operating smoothly, you will be led through the creation of Rue Galilee B&B with warmth and good humour. Although directed at those who have that most popular of dreams, to be a host of their own Bed and Breakfast establishment, the philosophical approach of the author can be applied to a multitude of lifestyles and situations. Janne chose a house in France, so there is information specific to this location, but his suggestions can be relevant to welcoming guests to your house in any country. Photographs appear at the start of each chapter to give a clear illustration of the care taken during this loving restoration and refurbishment of a stylish seventeenth century town house. Janne's desire to follow his dream and his commitment to give The Best of everything to every guest shines out from every page. His background profession as an electrician certainly prepared him well for the practical challenges of this new enterprise even if he had no formal training in the hospitality industry. Written with the intention to pass on encouragement and advice, this entertaining little book, reaches out to anyone who might welcome a gentle push to follow their dream. The host's new partner, Sara Verrall, is the author of this book and she has had the benefit of hearing all the tales contained within these pages directly from the horse's mouth as well as walking beside him for the past four years. As the high season of 2022 draws to a close it is good to be able to report that Rue Galilee B&B is still welcoming a colourful selection on international guests through it's doors, including a few Americans. They are finally able to follow the 2019 recommendations of the New York Times hotel critic who gave Janne one of proudest moments with his glowing review in that prestigious publication.
