This is a fictional tale of an unhappy young man who received the gift of going back in time with an opportunity to change the mistakes and poor decisions of his early life. After being lost and unhappy even after a hugely successful career, William James Darrow awakens to find himself in a strangely familiar place, his childhood home. When he looks into a mirror, the face staring back is his sixteen-year-old self.
With no way of explaining his predicament, he walks from his former bedroom into a repeat of several key life experiences. From that first moment, he relives painful, frustrating, and happy events he knows all too well. He is aware that he is reliving these events and manages to change one outcome from high school. The new results are worse than the original results and force him to face his own emotional failures. The other results are mirrors of a much larger picture of how he and others were affected by his decisions. Along the way, he better understands, Be careful what you wish for, and You have to play the cards you are dealt in life.
What he learns from these situations changes his life. The reflection of portions of his life is not pretty, and he finally understands he is not the only one who suffers emotional pain. He is forced to relive many mistakes he made in anger, immaturity, and self-loathing. There are satisfying and painful moments, and JD finally understands the pain everyone feels at times is the reality of living your life.
