Compelled to investigate, the author embarks on a research journey with art conservators and scientists that is both slow and laborious.
As the mysterious painting reveals its secrets layer-by-layer, we witness the author's unwinding of personal challenges associated with the patterning from the dysfunctional distortion of alcoholism in her family's past.
