Meghaduta, The Cloud Messenger: Poem Of Kalidasa (1882) is a translation of the classic Indian poem Meghaduta by Kalidasa, one of the most celebrated poets in Sanskrit literature. The poem tells the story of a Yaksha, a celestial being, who is exiled from his home in the Himalayas and sent to the south of India. He longs to be reunited with his wife, and so he enlists the help of a passing cloud to deliver a message to her. The cloud travels over mountains, rivers, and forests, describing the beauty of the landscape along the way. The poem is a masterpiece of Indian literature, renowned for its vivid descriptions of nature and its exploration of themes such as love, longing, and separation. This edition, translated by Thomas Clark, includes a detailed introduction and notes that provide context and commentary on the poem's historical and cultural significance. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
