This thesis deals with the emergence of motivational structures and the diversity of motives for participating in sports that have developed in the context of social change. In particular, sports psychology and sociology research branches are examined in order to approach the topic. The diversity of motives and different motivational structures among recreational cyclists will be analysed and evaluated with the help of a quantitative survey conducted as part of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro. A motivation-based typology and individual personality assessment of participant samples will be carried out in order to subsequently make a prediction about the future development of motives and goals in recreational cycling.
