This English edition of Goma Kubi Shidai (The Short Sequence of the Homa) follows the Nishino-in ryu tradition, in which this ritual manual is used as part of the advanced stages of practice. Because it is intended for practitioners who have already reached a certain level of training, many passages are deliberately abbreviated, and repeated sections are indicated only by their titles without full repetition of text. Please note that this text is not intended for independent practice.
One should always receive instruction and empowerment from a qualified Shingon master (Ajari) before attempting these rituals. Without such guidance, correct understanding and realization of the practices will be extremely difficult. All Siddham letters and mantras are presented in Romanized Japanese pronunciation, preserving the traditional phonetic form used in Japan rather than the Sanskrit or English equivalents. In addition to serving as a manual for actual practice, this book may also provide valuable insight for those who wish to understand what forms of ritual and meditative training are performed in Japanese Esoteric Buddhism.
