Order of the Anointing of the Sick and of their Pastoral Care has been officially revised to replace Pastoral Care of the Sick: Rites of Anointing and Viaticum. This new edition provides clear distinction for the parts of the rite intended for the sick in a variety of circumstances. Reoriented from the previous edition, this ritual book is specifically intended for priests and deacons and therefore easier for clergy to use in pastoral settings.
Carefully formatted for readability in various environments, Order of the Anointing of the Sick and of their Pastoral Care:
- restores the Latin typical edition's arrangement.
- reorients the use of this ritual book to clergy for ease of use in pastoral settings.
- retains several adaptations present in the previous text to aid in pastorally understanding the qualifications for the reception of the sacrament.
- includes a rubric at the beginning of the anointing of the sick chapter allowing priests to omit some elements from the Ordinary Rite of Anointing when visiting multiple patients in a hospital or institution.
- adds model rites in appendices for visiting a sick adult and a sick child, Christian initiation in danger of death, prayers after death, and the Emergency Rite of Penance, Anointing, and Viaticum.
- features a simple gold-stamped image by Br. Martin Erspamer, OSB, that beautifully reflects the rites of anointing and care for those who are sick.
