Influenciado por el expresionismo temprano y por el futurismo, aparece en Zúrich en 1916, en plena Guerra Mundial, el dadaÃsmo, una corriente literaria y artÃstica activa hasta 1923. Es un movimiento atÃpico, abierto, sin programas previos, que no obedece a ninguna escuela o enseñanza preestablecidas. De condición internacionalista, antibelicista y antiburguesa, pretende revolucionar el arte y la literatura con una deliberada intención provocadora. El dadaÃsmo aspira a la destrucción integral de los valores fundamentales de la civilización occidental mediante el escándalo, el desconcierto, lo absurdo, lo grotesco y la risa corrosiva e irreverente. La presente selección reúne un conjunto de textos pertenecientes al grupo dadá de BerlÃn, ciudad en la que trabajaron los principales exponentes de este movimiento desde el final de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Junto a textos muy conocidos (el Manifiesto dadaÃsta de 1918 o Qué es el dadaÃsmo y qué quiere en Alemania?), se recogen otros muchos, tan raros en las antologÃas existentes como imprescindibles para una correcta comprensión del dadaÃsmo berlinés. El orden de los textos respeta, en su mayor parte, la cronologÃa de su elaboración o de su publicación, de manera que pueda constatarse más fácilmente la dinámica de formación y desarrollo del grupo, asà como valorarse la evolución de sus propuestas.
