En este trabajo se recoge una parte Ãnfima de 27 años de investigación en las fuentes documentales del Archivo Histórico Municipal de Antequera. La aparición en las tareas de organización del Fondo de protocolos Notariales de forma fortuita de un desconocido escultor que era Diego de Vega, despertó la curiosidad de este autor, archivero del centro. Lo que sigue ha sido un minucioso vaciado de estos Fondos y de otra documentación, que ha permitido ir poco a poco estructurando un importante grupo de artistas con vÃa de continuidad entre los siglos XV a XIX, y que está permitiendo demostrar la importancia neurálgica que la ciudad de Antequera ha mantenido a lo largo de la Edad Moderna. La configuración de este cÃrculo artÃstico, perfectamente definido, con unas trazas especÃficas que determinan un estilo identificativo, y unos talleres donde se forman, nuevos creadores.
