This collector's edition is cleanly formatted for easy reading, 12 point Garamond, 1.15 spacing. Saint John Chrysostom was born in Antioch in 349 A.D. He was raised by his widowed mother who influenced him greatly. Although already living a devout life of study and prayer, Saint John officially became a monk when she passed away. He went into the wilderness where he wrote prolifically on the ascetic life. After many years he withdrew to a cave to live in complete solitude. He lived there for two years until he became ill and had to re-immerse himself in the world. He was ordained a priest in 386, and eventually earned the name Chrysostom (Golden-Mouthed) for his life-changing sermons. He became the bishop of Constantinople in 397 A.D.
