Tasso's Jerusalem Delivered or Godfrey of Bulloign: A Heroic Poem (1749) is a translation of Torquato Tasso's epic poem Gerusalemme liberata, which tells the story of the First Crusade and the capture of Jerusalem by Christian knights. The translation was done by Edward Fairfax, an English poet and translator, and was first published in 1600. The poem is written in rhyming couplets and follows the exploits of the Christian knights, led by Godfrey of Bouillon, as they battle against the Muslim armies of Jerusalem. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles and challenges, including betrayal, temptation, and political intrigue. The poem is notable for its vivid descriptions of battle scenes and its exploration of themes such as honor, chivalry, and religious faith. Fairfax's translation is considered a classic of English literature and is still widely read today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
