Venice Preserved Or A Plot Discovered: A Tragedy is a play written by Thomas Otway and first published in 1682. This edition was published in 1814. The play is set in Venice and tells the story of a group of conspirators who plan to overthrow the ruling council and establish a republic. The main characters are Jaffeir, a young Venetian nobleman who is torn between his loyalty to the conspirators and his love for his wife, Belvidera; Pierre, the leader of the conspiracy; and Antonio, a senator who is sympathetic to the conspirators' cause. As the plot unfolds, the characters are forced to confront their deepest fears and desires, and the play builds to a dramatic and tragic climax. Venice Preserved is considered one of Otway's greatest works and is known for its powerful characters, complex plot, and poetic language. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
