The so-called 'Arab Spring' was a series of protest movements in the Middle East, starting in 2011, that was meant to bring about positive change in a variety of areas of life. There were multiple cultural, economic, religious and social events or developments that were factors to the events, though the importance of these arguably differs from country to country. Although some changes resulted from the movements across the Middle East and North Africa these may not have been as profound or as widespread as may originally hoped by the protesters, or as feared by those been protested against.
