A couple of years ago, despite having a prior experience of seeing women being used by God and His Spirit over congregations, I did have a conundrum in why Paul would write 1st Timothy chapter 3 and even Titus 1 in referring to bishops whom we can call pastors in today's nomenclature, and yet appeared to have excluded the female gender.

Of course, there were other knotty and a bit complex texts such as 1st Corinthians 14, 34 and 35, and of course 1st Timothy chapter 2 verses 11 and 12, where it appears again that the woman is restricted.

However, over the years the nature of having such questions is that it interrogates the text of scriptures appropriately to see that there is no such contradiction.

Hence, the question is why the controversy with women pastors? We intend to delve into what must have caused this controversy.

Quickly, without getting into the very core of this book, I'll tell you that over the years, the disconnect between the texts of the Old and New Testament and the way the four gospels, the narratives and the theology have been viewed by latter interpreters of the New Testament era might have brought up that challenge.

Hence what we have done here is to view existing tradition vis a vis the texts of scripture and not just restrict it to the subject of pastors alone, but the female gender in the purpose and plan of God.
