This book challenges the way we think about dentistry - and how we think about thinking itself. At its core, it presents a structured model for clinical decision-making that draws from dentistry, decision theory, and artificial intelligence. But it does more than that: it asks what it really means to make a good decision in a medical context, and what kind of system - social, technical, economic - supports or distorts those decisions
Rather than listing treatments or summarizing studies, this book takes a step back and asks: How are treatment decisions actually made - and how can we improve that process structurally?
The approach is rooted in real-world dental practice, but its implications are much broader. The author proposes a conceptual framework that separates diagnosis, decision logic, and communication - allowing for more transparency, reproducibility, and patient-centered care. Along the way, it shows how AI is not merely a tool, but a mirror: it reflects the implicit structures in our knowledge and workflows, and gives us the opportunity to make them visible and consciously designable.
