This book is the fruit of the author's research work as part of his doctoral training. The research focused on the factors associated with the occurrence/complications of hypertension among young adults in Togo. This research falls within the field of health psychology and proposes a biopsychosocial model integrating aspects specific to the Togolese social and cultural context. The author explains that his interest in this subject stems as much from his clinical practice as from the epidemiological findings of an alarming rise in hypertension problems in sub-Saharan Africa. In fact, the subject he tackles stems directly from the clinical experiences that motivated his in-depth study: the abundance of relatively young hypertensive patients; under-informed, suffering patients who complain of not receiving answers to the question of the origin of hypertension and prognosis, who are afraid of treatments experienced as cumbersome and difficult to comply with, who wait until the last moment to consult; patients who do not always consider hypertension to be a chronic disease.
