What many people are witnessing across African Christianity today cannot be explained by familiar labels. It is not simply charismatic expression or excessive Pentecostal zeal. Something deeper is unfolding.
In much of Sub-Saharan Africa, especially Nigeria, Christianity is being reshaped into an emerging hybrid spiritual economy. Christian language, Scripture, and prayer now operate alongside power-seeking metaphysics, traditional spiritual technologies, fear-driven cosmology, and modern market logic. The surface remains Christian, but the internal logic has shifted.

Rather than focusing on salvation, holiness, or character formation, this new spiritual system is oriented toward control of outcomes. Faith becomes a method. Prayer becomes a technique. Rituals function as technologies designed to produce protection, success, healing, fertility, or dominance. God is no longer encountered primarily as sovereign, but treated as a force to be activated, pressured, or bypassed when results delay.
Through careful analysis, this book maps how meaning gives way to power, how spiritual causality replaces social explanation, and how religious leaders increasingly function as technicians and power brokers rather than shepherds. It explores the use of ritual assignments, symbolic acts, and fear-based instruction, showing how they work psychologically, culturally, and economically within deeply rooted indigenous cosmologies of exchange and sacrifice.
The book also examines the moral consequences of this shift: the erosion of ethical boundaries, the neutrality of power, the instrumental use of Scripture, and the rise of a religious marketplace sustained by fear, silence, and unmet insecurity. It shows how these systems are no longer confined to Africa, but are being exported through migration into Western cities, where legal and cultural blind spots allow them to flourish.
At the heart of the book is a central question:
Where does the power actually come from?
Is it biblical, psychological, metaphysical, traditional spiritualism, social conditioning, fear-driven expectation, or something else entirely?
