According to statistical studies, approximately 9% of the population in Germany suffers from diabetes, with 90% of those affected having type 2 diabetes. Approximately 5% of the population, or around 300,000 people in Germany, suffer from type 1 diabetes. A person with type 1 diabetes is dependent on lifelong therapy with the vital messenger insulin, which is also an important component for a better quality of life for these patients, whereby self-monitoring of metabolism is considered an important preventive measure to avoid possible complications. In this thesis, several design concepts were developed that could make the life of a diabetic easier, at least in some situations.
