THE MESSENGERS OF DEATH This section explores ominous signs, from the Irish Banshee whose cries announce death to the Scottish Kelpie, this aquatic shapeshifter with its fatal allure. It also features the Black Shuck, the spectral hound of English legends, and the Dullahan, a headless horseman who fears gold. VAMPIRES AND GHOSTS The collection delves into the roots of myth with the Strigoi of the Carpathians and the Scandinavian Draugr, a physically undead creature from the sagas. SPIRITS OF NATURE The wild forces are represented by the fearsome Nuckelavee of Orkney, a flayed abomination, as well as by the Russian figures of the Leshy, guardian of the forests, and the iconic witch Baba Yaga.
METAMORPHOSES AND RITUALS This section deals with legends rooted in history and customs, such as the 1573 trial of Gilles Garnier for lycanthropy. It also describes the Galician procession of the Santa Compaña, the Germanic Wild Hunt, and the famous Alpine Krampus.
