This is a mental health therapist's astute and humorous memoir of career experience made provocative by focusing on a cultural discrepancy between our language and neuroscience. This discrepancy has not been examined by the mental health profession, but it represents a contradiction hiding in plain sight. Accessible to therapists and the general public, this is a personal, insightful, and useful accounting. Using the Anger-Loss Model, this account provides a more easily understood pathway to one of the most fundamental tasks of psychotherapy: knowing yourself. Later chapters offer extended clinical advice about therapeutic practice, as well as an appendix of handouts with permission for reproduction.
