虽说命可定人生，但命运的吉或凶往往又影响改变人生。这即是说命虽吉，若行忌运或凶运，其可减吉或变凶，从而祸及人生；其命虽不吉或凶，若行好运又可助其趋吉避凶，从而造福人生。
人之《四柱八字》既能明释日主人之旺衰吉凶，又能预测人生吉凶福祸。而人之姓名，名自命，名为命，名与命同宗，故其亦理应能明释人生之事何吉何凶。
作者自20世纪八十年代便步入《五格姓名学》，经数十年的实践和研究，发现其只是依据八十一数理（天干）阴阳五行的吉凶论来分析评判姓名之吉或凶的，即说某姓名吉就永远地吉，说某姓名凶就永远地凶，把本来就充满活力的姓名数理阴阳五行却变成了一潭死水，即不能说明姓名的吉还是凶，也不能预测人生之事是好还是坏。究其原因就在于《五格姓名学》只知数理五行名日名天，却不知数理五行名月名地。亦即是说，数理五行既有十天干五行又有十二地支五行，这天干五行透天是名日名天的，地支五行藏地下是名月名地的。而这地支的作用大于天干重于天干。天干与地支相配天干好比水中之舟，地支好比舟下之水，水能载舟，也能覆舟。同时支为干之根，干为支之苗，月支值年，为众杀之首，值月主宰生杀之权，然天干无此特权，故地支是决定天干生旺死绝的关键。《五格姓名学》只有五字，只见天不见地，其五字漂浮无根，吉凶不明，人生之事何好何坏也不清。
作者依据上述天干、地支的相互关系及其作用，将地支五行理论注入《五格姓名学》数理（天干）阴阳五行，将其五格五字变成了五柱十字的新型姓名学即《适用姓名学》。于是其上有苗下有根，根强苗即壮，根弱苗即衰，一遇流年就显勃勃生机而千变万化，姓名是吉是凶，人生之事何吉何凶，就一目了然。
作者所创建的《适用姓名学》是对《五格姓名学》革新而来，其彻底摒弃了《五格姓名学》81数理阴阳五行的吉凶论，充分运用了干支五行生Ð
