Carl Jung e Wolfgang Pauli operavano rispettivamente nel campo della psiche e in quello della materia. Questi due settori sono considerati assolutamente incompatibili tra loro. Infatti, il materialismo scientifico nega l'esistenza di ogni componente psichica nell'universo conosciuto.
Nonostante l'enorme distanza tra le loro discipline i due scienziati stabilirono una collaborazione che durò più di venti anni. Durante quel periodo non smisero mai di cercare un elemento unificante, capace di conciliare, sul piano scientifico, le ragioni della dimensione psichica con quelle della dimensione materiale.
Purtroppo, non raggiunsero questo obiettivo nel corso della loro vita, ma furono profeti di una nuova interpretazione scientifica dell'universo. Infatti, l'evoluzione delle conoscenze nel campo della fisica quantistica, e soprattutto le conferme sperimentali di fenomeni come l'entanglement quantistico, rivalutano le loro teorie. Oggi emerge con forza l'idea di un universo che non è diviso in oggetti materiali. L'universo non è frazionato ma consiste in una realtà unica, fatta di spirito e materia. Si tratta della realtà che Jung e Pauli chiamavano Unus mundus. La materia e la psiche hanno uguale dignità e contribuiscono assieme all'esistenza dell'universo.

Carl Gustav Jung (1865-1961) è stato uno psicologo e psicoterapeuta svizzero, molto noto per le sue teorie sull'inconscio collettivo e sulla sincronicità . Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958) è uno dei padri della fisica quantistica. Su Pauli possiamo dire che nell'anno 1945 ha ricevuto il premio Nobel per i suoi studi su un principio basilare della meccanica quantistica, conosciuto come Principio di esclusione di Pauli.
